(SANTA ANA, CA) – John Wayne Airport is proud to present a brand-new collaborative project with Cypress College, highlighting the creative talents of students from the college’s Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) division. Through this partnership, JWA helps showcase how VAPA provides a dynamic environment for students to grow their creative capacities, sharpen their critical thinking, and build the foundational skills needed for careers across the visual and performing arts. The newest exhibition in the Community Focus Space Gallery is titled The Collective Self, and is presented by the faculty and students of the Art and Photography departments of Cypress College.
Inspired by concepts from psychology and sociology, this exhibition explores the multi-faceted nature of identity and identity construction. The collection highlights the chemistry of self-contemplation, the relational interplay of individual and community, and the exchanges between us and the geographies we inhabit, alone and together. Featuring diverse artistic expressions – from drawing and photography to concept design and illustration – The Collective Self reflects our shared humanity and individual stories while inviting you to contemplate your place within life's warp and weft.
This exhibition showcases not only the talent found within the visual arts departments at Cypress College, but also aims to draw attention to the fantastic opportunities offered by the school. The Cypress College Art Department offers a variety of A.A. degree options and transfer pathways to four-year institutions in the California State University and University of California systems, as well as private art schools. The Associate in Arts for Transfer-Studio Art provides students with the first 2 years of required coursework for Bachelor’s degrees in Painting, Animation, Graphic Design, Photography, Entertainment Art, Sculpture, Illustration, and Interior Design, among others. The Associate in Arts for Transfer-Art History provides the first 2 years of required coursework for a Bachelor’s in Art History.
In addition to the visual art exhibition, Cypress College will be having a small performance at John Wayne Airport on May 16, 2025, to showcase the creative talent of the Performing Arts Department.
This exhibition will be on view through August 11, 2025. To find out more about the exhibition, please visit: https://www.cypresscollegeart.com/the-collective-selfjwa2025.
