“Minimally Invasive Fine Art Photography®” on Display at John Wayne Airport."

SANTA ANA, Calif. - While the field of photography and medicine are comparatively different, photographer and physician Andrew C. Ko saw a commonality in both where each come together to provide a sense of peace, comfort, and harmony in a world often consumed by tragedy. Ko’s “Minimally Invasive Fine Art Photography®” is on display in the John Wayne Airport Community Focus Space from October 17 – November 14, 2019.

“Andrew C. Ko’s background in the field of medicine and photography brings a unique perspective to his artwork as a form of therapeutic calm and serenity,” said Orange County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Lisa Bartlett. “Next time you are traveling through, take a moment to view and admire his exhibit throughout the Airport.”

Ko’s work first begins with taking a photograph using a careful selection of the right subject matter in an environment with desirable lighting and composition. Images are then digitally reimagined via graphic design software using traditional dodging and burning darkroom techniques and multiple layer masks to fine-tune the image. The result is a piece of the world in art form as seen through Ko’s eyes.

“I strive to balance the unbalanced mind, providing a sense of peace through the virtue of photography, and imparting human emotion through the simple power of composition, lighting, and timing,” said Ko. “Most of my works are black and white, carefully converted from the original color photograph to eliminate distraction and bring forth a subjective representation of reality.”

Most of Ko’s work consists of landscape imagery taken not far from civilization that contains some aspect of human activities. In 2015, Ko was awarded first place in the Architecture and Bridges category and third place in the Advertising Travel/Tourism category at the Moscow International Foto Awards (MIFA) and received numerous honorable mentions from MIFA, International Photography Awards, and Prix de la Photographie Paris. His artwork has been featured at the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts, “Wanderlust” Group Exhibition in San Diego, and a Juried Exhibition at the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel.
