John Wayne Airport has announced the winners of its 23rd Annual Student Art Contest themed "My Favorite Airsports." Ainsley Chu of Irvine and Nicholas Kang of Cypress received top honors as Grand Prize winners in this year's contest. Their artwork, along with other winners, is on exhibit from December 11, 2012 through January 16, 2013 on the Arrival level, adjacent to Baggage Carousels 1 and 4, of the Thomas F. Riley Terminal.

John Wayne Airport (JWA) anticipates a busier-than-normal travel period between December 21, 2012 and January 4, 2013. Last year, more than 440,000 passengers traveled through JWA during this period. On Monday, August 6, 2012, McDonald's restaurant, across from Gate 5 in Terminal A, opened to the traveling public at John Wayne Airport. This completes the remodel of both McDonald's locations at John Wayne Airport. The Terminal B location, across from Gate 12, opened in May this year. Effective Tuesday, June 19, United Airlines will resume their ticket counter and checked baggage services in Terminal B at John Wayne Airport (JWA). The move comes as a result of the completion of an eight-week long project to upgrade the baggage handling system.

Effective Wednesday, April 25, United Airlines will temporarily move their ticket counter operations to Terminal C. US Airways counter operations will remain in Terminal B and baggage will be temporarily screened adjacent to their ticket counter. The temporary move of United Airlines ticket counters and lobby baggage screening for US Airways is necessary to allow the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to make security upgrades to the baggage handling system in Terminal B.

Effective Saturday, February 25, 2012, Continental Airlines at John Wayne Airport will move from Terminal A to Terminal B. This move is part of the ongoing integration of United Airlines and Continental Airlines since closure of their merger on October 1, 2010. In order to continue the upgrade of the security screening checkpoints at John Wayne Airport, alternating lanes within the Terminal A passenger security checkpoint will close beginning MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2012. While the checkpoint itself will remain open, the number of screening lanes will be reduced. During this time, passengers departing John Wayne Airport should plan ahead giving themselves extra time to get through screening and find their gate.
