Collings Foundation Visits Lyon Air Museum
To honor WWII Veterans, The Collings Foundation’s "Wings of Freedom Tour" brought extremely rare bomber and fighter aircraft for the Local Living History Display to Lyon Air Museum as part of their 110-city nationwide tour in May.
The 23rd annual "Wings of Freedom Tour" took place at the Lyon Air Museum, founded by General William Lyon and located on the west side of John Wayne Airport, from May 11-13. The display featured a B-17 Flying Fortress, B-24 Liberator, and P-51 Mustang aircraft. This tour has been running for over 22 years, has visited over 2,600 airports in the United States, and has an estimated 3.5 to 4 million visitors per year.
The Collings Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 1979 and located in Stowe, Massachusetts. The purpose of the Collings Foundation’s "Wings of Freedom Tour" is to share the history of American aircraft with aviation-interested individuals who wish to learn more about their heritage and to honor the veterans who sacrificed so much for American freedom.
