JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT ISSUES ECONOMIC IMPACT REPORT

SANTA ANA, Calif. - John Wayne Airport (JWA) has completed an economic impact study that identifies the Airport’s substantial contributions to the Orange County and Southern California economies in Calendar Year 2005. The study measured direct, indirect and induced economic impact in terms of three key indicators: output, payroll, and employment.

The study found that JWA’s total economic impact in Orange County for Calendar Year 2005 was:

  • Output:   $5.61 billion.  This measure includes the economic activity of on-airport aviation, aviation-related service providers and related off-airport businesses.

  • Payroll:  $1.28 billion.  This measure includes the annual payroll of employees whose jobs depend on the presence of JWA.

  • Employment:   42,162 full-time equivalent jobs that depend on JWA.

“We are often cited as an important contributor to the county’s and the region’s economy and the results of our 2005 economic impact study certainly confirm that,” said Airport Director, Alan Murphy. He continued, “We are pleased and proud of our continuing role as a robust economic engine for the community we serve.”

The Airport contracted with Unison-Maximus, Inc., in association with UCG Associates, Inc., to conduct the economic impact study. A summary of results from the study can be found at: www.ocair.com/newsandfacts/reports/economicimpactbrochure.pdf
