JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT EXPECTS A BUSY HOLIDAY SEASON

Santa Ana, CA – John Wayne Airport officials are expecting a busy holiday travel season this year. Coming off a record November that saw passenger levels increase over 15% from the same period last year, officials expect approximately 475,000 passengers to pass through the Airport during this busy travel period.

“It’s that time of year again,” said Airport Director Alan Murphy. “The holiday season is upon us and along with the eggnog, mistletoe, and New Year celebrations, people are taking to the skies as part of their holiday plans,” stated Murphy.

“Holiday travelers should anticipate a very busy airport and allow themselves at least 2 ½ hours prior to their flight to allow ample time to park their car, check baggage, and get through security screening,” noted Murphy. “Morning hours at John Wayne Airport are expected to be especially busy.”

The Airport would like to offer holiday travelers the following tips to increase the convenience, speed and reliability of their visit to John Wayne Airport this holiday season:

JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT TRAVEL TIPS

Tip #1 - Allow Yourself Adequate Time.

Be sure to arrive at the Airport at least 2 ½ hours prior to your scheduled flight. You will need the time to navigate increased traffic and heavy crowds.

Tip #2 - Limit Carry-On Baggage.

During the holiday season, most flights are filled to capacity. Overhead storage is at a premium. Limit your carry-on to one bag and one personal item such as a purse, briefcase, laptop or diaper bag.

Tip #3 – Don’t Pre-Wrap Holiday Gifts.

All gifts that have been wrapped may be subject to search (both checked luggage and carry-on baggage.)

Tip #4 – Be Prepared For Screening.

All carry-on items (including cell phones, lap-tops and film) will be x-rayed. Since baggage-screening equipment may damage film, place it in your carry-on luggage.

Tip #5 – Be Prepared To Show Photo Identification.

Bring both your boarding pass or ticket and a government-issued photo ID. Children under the age of 18 do not require an ID.

Tip #6 – Be Prepared To Have Your Vehicle Inspected.

All vehicles entering Airport parking structures are subject to search by Airport Police Services.

Tip #7 – Before You Leave For The Airport, Call Your Airline to Double Check Flight Times.

Don’t leave for the Airport until you’ve called your airline to double-check your flight times. It will save you a lot of headaches if you happen to find out your flight is leaving two or three hours late….or worse, cancelled.

Tip #8 – Make Sure To Thoroughly Check Your Luggage.

Make sure to thoroughly check your luggage to avoid mistakenly carrying on prohibited items. For more information on prohibited items check the Transportation Security Administration website at: http://www.tsa.gov/public/interapp/editorial/editorial_1012.xml.

Tip #9 – Avoid Airport Roadway Traffic.

Visitors can help avoid roadway congestion by parking in the Terminal garages when picking up passengers ($1 per hour) rather than circling the roadway.

Tip #10 – Visit JWA’s Website To Help Plan Your Trip.

Visit the John Wayne Airport website at www.ocair.com to help plan your trip. It contains valuable information regarding alternative options, parking, passenger services, airlines, flight schedules, Airport news and a map of the Terminal.

PARKING INFORMATION

Terminal parking is available in A1, A2, B1 & B2 ($1 per hour, maximum $17 per day), as well as convenient curbside Valet Parking ($20 for the first 24-hour period or portion thereof.
