JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT SUMMER EXHIBITION:
AUTHENTIC NAVAJO WEAVINGS
Santa
Ana, CA –
Airport Director Alan L. Murphy and the John Wayne Airport
Arts Commission is pleased to announce the Late Summer/Early Fall 2003
exhibition, AUTHENTIC NAVAJO WEAVINGS, in the Concourse Gallery of the
Thomas F. Riley Terminal at John Wayne Airport. The displays will be visible
across from Gates 1-4 and 11-14 with the exhibition open through October
26, 2003.
The Eye-Dazzlers and Germantown Weavings that will be a part of the display
at John Wayne Airport showcase the wide and vibrant range of colors and
geometric patterns from authentic Navajo weavings. “The Airport is very
proud to be hosting this exhibit,” said Mr. Murphy. “The goal of the
Airport Arts Program in providing exhibitions such as this is to offer
the traveling
public with an enriching experience upon visiting our Terminal.”
The exhibition represents just a portion of the exciting variety of Navajo
Weavings and authentic mission Indian baskets from the collection of
Mark Hilbert of Newport Beach, CA. Mr. Hilbert grew up in his father’s
appliance
business in Pasadena, CA but developed a finely honed aesthetic eye
early in his life. This recognition of items with significant cultural
and
aesthetic value developed into a wonderful collection of unique items
and the Airport
is excited about the opportunity to place some of them on display.
