Santa Ana, CA – Winners of the 10th Annual John Wayne Airport (JWA) Student Art Contest took top honors at the national and state levels of the 2000 International Aviation Art Contest. Fifteen of 18 state award winners, one first place and one third place national awards in Category III (ages 14-17) and one third place in Category II (ages 10-14) are from Orange County. The national winners have been invited to participate in the National Awards Ceremony on March 27, 2000 at the Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. Their artwork will be forwarded to compete internationally in Lausanne, Switzerland, on May 4, 2000.
"What a proud moment for Orange County," said Alan L. Murphy, Airport Director. "John Wayne Airport congratulates all the winners and participants of this year's contest. We wish them the best of luck at the international competition."
Students in three age groups, 6-9, 10-13, and 14-17 from across the United States were invited to use their imagination to create a poster for "Flight Into The Future." JWA's contest is the first of three levels culminating with the international level.
The International Aviation Art Contest is generously sponsored by the National Aeronautic Association, National Association of State Aviation Officials and the Federal Aviation Administration in cooperation with the Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI), to motivate and encourage children of FAI-member nations to become more familiar with and participate in aeronautics, engineering and science.
