New Parking Rates Go Into Effect At John Wayne Airport
SANTA ANA, CA - Revised parking rates for John Wayne Airport (JWA) were approved today by the Orange County Board of Supervisors. Under the new rates, all parking lots located at the terminal (A1, B1, A2 and B2) charge a rates of $1 per hour with an $11 per day maximum. The remote parking lots (Main Street and Annex lots) charge a rate of $1 per hour with a $7 per day maximum. The new rates will go into effect May 19, 1997.
"JWA is implementing this new rate structure in response to the needs of its Airport patrons," said O.B. Schooley, Airport Director. "These rates will make our parking facilities much easier to use," he said.
A recent analysis by the Airport shows that 76% of the passengers use the parking facilities on a short-term basis (less than 24-hours). However, only 59% of total parking spaces are currently designated as short-term. "With the new rate structure, the demand for short-term parking will be better met," added Schooley.
A total of 150 spaces in the parking lots located at the terminal will be set aside for the meet and greet/hourly parkers. These spaces will be marked for a maximum of two-hour parking and located nearest the terminal entrances of lots A1, B1, A2 and B2.
Under the new rate structure, 94% of parking patrons (short-term parkers) will experience no change or a decrease in their parking rates. The remaining 6% of parking patrons (long-term parkers of over three days in duration) will experience an increase in parking rates if they choose to park at the terminal rather than in the remote parking lots on Main Street.
Overall parking revenue for the Airport will remain neutral (no increase or decrease). Even with the change in parking rates, JWA still provides parking at a rate lower than surrounding airports.
