1997 John Wayne Airport Student Art Contest Winners Announced
Santa Ana, CA -- John Wayne Airport and the Airport Arts Commission is pleased to announce that 41 Orange County students will receive awards in the 1997 John Wayne Airport Student Art Contest themed, "Air Sports in the Olympics." A list of student winners by city and school is attached. Student artwork selected for exhibition will be on display throughout the Thomas F. Riley Terminal until January 11, 1998.
All contestants whose artwork is on exhibition, and their families, have been invited to a reception at John Wayne Airport to announce and honor the 1997 winners and honorable mentions. Hosted by the County of Orange, John Wayne Airport Arts Commission, and McDonald’s John Wayne Airport, the reception will take place on Sunday, December 7, 1997 from 2 to 4 p.m. opposite Gate 7 of the Departure Level in the Thomas F. Riley Terminal.
Media coverage is encouraged. Photo opportunities will be available as the student winners are congratulated and receive their prizes.
Approximately 3,400 students participated in this year’s contest which was sponsored by the John Wayne Airport Arts Commission. Jurors included members of the Airport Arts Commission and individuals from the Orange County Museum of Art, Orange Coast College, City of Newport Beach and Orange County 99’s. The winning works from the John Wayne Airport Contest will also be judged in the 1998 International Aviation Art Contest.
